Colour composition

I was hoping to show you these once they were finished, but I have come down with the flu, and feel rubbish, so it will have to be works in progress. I am in a trade on Joanna's Surface design group on colour composition, and because of it being the end of term I am behind! Which is surprising for me as I hate being late. I decided to use the Angie Hughes technique that my friends did with her at a workshop recently. I coloured some calico with acrylics and then tore them into strips and wove them together. I then printed the word colour with two lino blocks I had cut, one I did backwards by mistake, but it worked out well. After printing them I layed strips of organza over and free machined. I used curtain interlining to give it some stability.
Then blasted it with the heat tool, and did some hand stitch.
My next dilemma is whether to edge them off with satin stitch all neat or leave the raw woven edges in place, I'd love to know what you think.
Hopefully I will feel a bit better over the weekend and be able to finish them.

I thought you'd been quiet all week! Hope you are feeling much better now. I love all these textures and colours Carol - and the 'mirror image' colour word works really well. I am all in favour of raw edges myself, much softer.... Val

Hope you are feeling better soon. These are great and I'd leave the edges as I think they add to the piece :)

This looks great Carol. The colours you have put together work really well. If it were me I would leave the edges ragged and I think I would be inclined to burn them too if that would be appropriate. Then of course, I would most likely bring out the Treasure Gold :)) Good job we're all different isn't it?

hope you are feeling better very soon Carol, having the flu in the middle of "summer" is no fun.
love the colour piece. I'd leave the edges raw, like Purple Missus's idea of burning them though. Make sure and post pictures of the finished item so we can see what you decided.

I have only just found your blog tho I recognise many of the names here! I love the colours you have used and the idea of weaving which I have done with strips cut from paintings but not yet with fabric. I hope you soon feel much better and do post the finished piece.

Hope you feel better soon, lousy timing just as the school holidays start. I think leave the edges as they are as well.

Oh wow, I love your piece! I'm with the crowd here and suggest you leave the edges raw, although the idea of burning them for stability sounds good too. Rotten luck catching the flu, hope you conquer it quickly.
